Irina Novikova

Irina was born in Kommunarsk in 1963.  She studied piano and violin as well as singing at the Music School in Bryansk, before being accepted into the Art School in Bryansk, from where she graduated in 1982. She entered the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg in 1989 and graduated in 1995.

For many of her exhibitions she has chosen to produce work on a special theme.  For instance, for one show she produced a series of paintings based on the mysticism of the Middle Ages, while for another series she used traditions of the Mediterranean.  At present she is interested in the various aspects of dance.

She enjoys working in a way that is based on the techniques of the old masters.  But she also experiments in original ways of working in watercolour, combining the use of wet and dry brushes.

Irina has taken part in many exhibitions in Germany, Britain and Croatia, as well as different parts of Russia.  Her paintings are in private collections in Germany, England, Canada and USA.  Since her marriage she has divided her time between Croatia and Bryansk in Russia.
